This summer, IASC is a work site for the New London Youth Affairs (NLYA) Summer Youth Employment Program. Karrie Jean, a rising junior at Grasso Technical High School, has been placed with IASC, and we are excited she is with us! The Summer Youth Employment Program provides work-based learning opportunities for youth, ages 14-21, for the purpose of developing and practicing positive work habits and gaining exposure to the world of work. Karrie’s Haitian background will help IASC be more in touch with the local Haitian community as she speaks and writes Haitian Creole, and she intimately understands the struggles of those who migrate to the United States to find better opportunities. We are grateful to be giving back to our community and giving Karrie a great opportunity to learn more about the legal, cultural, and social challenges of immigration!
New London Youth Affairs (NLYA) Summer Program also known as SYEP is funded by Eastern Connecticut Workforce Investment Board (EWIB). You can find out more about the Summer Employment Program here.
